Creating content used to be tough, but it’s even tougher nowadays. With So many new blogs emerging over the years, the competition has become so stiff that it’s really tough to drive traffic to your blog.
Back in 2007, I used to write things I cared about, and 1 out of those 10 articles used to get blessed by Google and balanced the overall traffic on the blog.
But it’s 2017 now, and we can’t really depend on luck to get that 1 out of 10 posts blessed by Google because it won’t happen.
You really need to play smart to work on that 1 post that would get traffic. And in this post, I am going to show you how to find that topic to write about.
Look for Popular Posts on Other Blogs
Some blogs like to show off their best working content, they used plugins or inbuilt feature of their themes to find the popular content and show it in the sidebar or the footer.
It’s quite a blessing for bloggers like you and me, who are looking to work on only that particular posts that have a potential to get traffic.
On other blogs, you will find these popular posts under Title of ‘Most Popular, ‘Reader’s Pick’, ‘Editors’ Pick’ etc.
Take help from Google.com
Google is not only helpful for the general public, it is also a tool for webmasters to find new content ideas if you know some advanced tricks.
Also, use this tool to check how many social shares the particular link gets.
For example,
Type site:example.com in Google (type the target website name instead of example.com)
This will show you all the pages of that particular website indexed by Google.com. And the popular ones would be appearing on the first page. This might give you a good idea what works in your niche.
Use External Websites to find popular content on a website
Websites like Aherfs.com and Open Site Explorer by Moz.com, are pretty cool tools to find the popular content on a blog.
You might have to create an account on them in order to use them, and their premium accounts offer more features, but your goal right now is to only look for popular posts, then free would be sufficient for you.
ShareCount is a popular website to find how popular a particular page is by telling you how many social shares it has.
There is another website called BuzzSumo, which will also show you the number of Social Shares a particular link gets, this will let you know what works on the Social Media for a particular niche.
You can use these two tools to find social shares along with Open Site Explorer and Aherfs to find popular topics you can write about.
